Well, the rest of September sort of took a u-turn away from writing in a major way... but first, the writing update!

My one (1) article: Comparing the Sun and Earth

It looked easy when I picked it up, but, turned out to take some thinking. The Sun compared to the Earth is a bit like comparing apples to oranges. Both are fruit (astronomical objects within the same solar system) but that's about it. Still, I managed to turn it into a decent article, I hope.

Other than that, I wrote guide intros:

Mars
Jupiter
Saturn
Asteroid Belt

... yes, there is a trend here of picking up planets. ;) I've also got Mercury in the pipeline but it's tangled up with the chemical element, so I haven't figured out how to actually write it yet. And I'm on the lookout for Venus, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Hopefully these will work well as a whole set of Solar System guides.

Other new guide intros were:
Natural Selection (Evolution)
Oceans
South America
USGS
Polar Bears
Marine Life
Biodiversity

I've picked up another half dozen of these for next month as well. They're fairly quick and easy compared to writing actual articles, only 100 word minimum, one picture, no need to find links or references.

So why do I need quick and easy? Well, I got a job. :) And it's not a desk job (although there turns out to be lots of paperwork to do). Basically, in the aftermath of the massive oil spill, suddenly there's a whole bunch more scientific interest in the Gulf of Mexico. They've started winding down testing for toxic chemicals and now they want to find out how it's affecting things biologically. So there's lots of plankton sampling to be done, and probably fish-related stuff later. I got a call from a place where I sent a resume back in July or so, whom I hadn't heard from and assumed rejection. Well, they wanted to put me on a boat. So I said yes. :) And that's where I've been for the past two weeks - on a boat in the Gulf of Mexico.

It's been fun so far overall, with plans to put me on more of them over the next several months. I like the idea of being sent out on boats at random intervals and writing in between.
